This song is based on a story a friend told me. My friend and I were on the platform at Chelmsford Railway Station and It started by me asking him if he was ok because he looked troubled. He shook his head. At that moment our train arrived. 45 minutes later he finished telling his story just as we were arriving at Liverpool St station. It was such a touching and almost unbelievable tale that it felt like the quickest train ride we had both ever had. Everything and everyone around us seemed to disappear as my friend poured his heart out. During the journey I remember trying to give him some advice based on my own experiences and I could see that although he was agreeing with what I was saying I could tell he wouldn’t take it. He wasn’t ready to do anything. He just needed to grieve. We were meeting other friends that day and as we got off the train he asked that we didn’t carry on the conversation. I agreed of course but we were both shaken by the experience. I actually said during the conversation “I think that you know” and reflecting on the conversation the next day I started writing...
