The song idea came from a dream I had the night after I had found out an ex’s marriage had broken down. It affected me more than I thought it would. It brought back a lot of memories and emotions I wasn’t prepared to feel again.I remember the overriding feeling at the time was one of sadness even though ours wasn’t an amicable break up. I think the sadness came from a place of hoping that what we had was a stepping stone to real happiness for someone who couldn’t find it with me and then knowing that wasn’t going to be true. It wasn’t longing to go back to our time but more a feeling that our relationship had lost some of its meaning for me because of what she was going through. It also taught me that there aren’t happy endings for everyone...

I'm not with you anymore
But your not leaving me
Fairytales you left me for
Ain't what you thought they'd be
But that don't make me happy
I won't say "I told you so"
All I ever did was love you
Even when you let me go

How many times
Have we crossed the line
Between love hate and blind

It shouldn't matter anymore
But it does
I know I can't forget you
It's because
The closest I have known
Is when I was
Saying that it didn't matter
But It does

Even though that I've moved on
One word can take me back
Yeah the pain inside has gone
But my thoughts can still be black
I'm a better man today
They say that "When you lose you learn"
Can't remember who we were then
But I'm sad that it's your turn

Should I reach out to you?
Will you reach out to me?
Don't see how that could happen
Let it be, Let it be
